Chief Executive of Progress Housing Group Jacqui De Rose with the Liverpool Samba School
30 July 2007
Staff and tenants from Leyland-based Progress Housing Group enjoyed Rio-style percussion and Samba dancing as part of a cultural awareness-raising event at the Group's Head Office.
Staff joined tenants and Board Members to raise the roof Brazilian style at a workshop with musicians and dancers from the award-winning Liverpool Samba School.
Workshop leader, Roger Morris, who has played with Jools Holland and The Real Thing amongst others, offered a fascinating insight into Brazilian culture as part of the organisation's Equality and Diversity strategy.
The event was the fourth in a series for Progress staff and tenants designed to offer a taste of different cultures, and give a better understanding of the needs of its customers. Last year, the Progress team celebrated Chinese New Year, Diwali and enjoyed a multi-faith workshop. Earlier this year, staff sampled Polish culture and cuisine.
Said tenant, Beryl Cotton: 'I had a really superb time at the Brazilian event. I have never played any kind of instrument before, so I got a big kick out of playing with the samba band.'
Jacqui De Rose, Group Chief Executive, said: 'The events are a great way of learning about the different needs and cultural differences of our customers. They are really gaining popularity with staff and tenants and contribute immensely to our Equality and Diversity strategy.'
