Local school children got to grips with the ins and outs of anti-social behaviour at a special series of workshops run by NEW PROGRESS HOUSING ASSOCIATION .

Southlands High School in Chorley invited the  Leyland-based Housing Association to deliver a number of workshops as part of the Year 1 0 students' Personal Development course.

The course was designed by Association staff and the school to help students understand the challenges facing them once they leave home. It covered topics such as budgeting, rent arrears, dealing with anti-social behaviour, and living responsibly in the community.

The course proved so popular with students that it will now be rolled out across Chorley and South Ribble at other schools.

Says Linda Alcock, New Progress Housing Association, who delivered the workshops:

'We were really keen to get involved with this project as we are with any initiative that helps create better communities.'

'The students really got involved and really seem to have taken on board the importance of living responsibly and the negative impact of anti-social behaviour. They were pleasure to work with and we hope that we have made a real difference to their future as homeowners and tenants.'

Hazel Broadfield, PD Teacher and Head of History, Southlands School said: 'I want say a huge thank-you to Progress. Their expert advice was excellent and the session made a real difference to some of the students' aspirations and behaviour for the future. We are really looking forward to working with them on future projects.'
