Help the homeless this Christmas

04 December 2006

Two local schemes for  the homeless are appealing to the public to help their residents celebrate Christmas.

Foundations in Avenham, Preston provides twenty-two self-contained flats and support for adults and young people facing homelessness. The Bridge in Chorley provides a home and safe environment  for ten young people, many of whom will be facing their first Christmas on their own without their families .

Kirstie Joyce, a support worker at Foundations and Sue Parkinson, Manager of
The Bridge, are appealing to local businesses and people to donate small gifts and essential non-perishable food and toiletries to help the residents over the difficult Christmas and New Year period.

Says Kirstie:

'For many of our residents, Christmas isn't spent with family and friends but with the staff and other residents in the hostel. We do try to make the most of the Christmas period and make it as special as we can for all.

'If enough people could buy just one extra item in their weekly shop such as a set of toiletries or even a roll of wrapping paper - it would make a huge difference to the residents' Christmas.'

To donate, please drop your items into Foundations on Oxford Street, Avenham, The Bridge on Clarence Street, Chorley or to New Progress Housing Association's Head Office at King Street, Leyland.
