Two colleagues from Progress Housing Group in Leyland literally ran for their lives to raise over £1800 for charity in two separate fundraisers this month.
Paul Wilkinson, the organisation's Continuous Improvement Officer, spent a nerve shattering night ghost hunting in Samlesbury Hall to raise funds for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.
Colleagues at the organisation sponsored the intrepid ghost-buster to take part in the hunt for the Hall's 'White Lady' on Friday night. He emerged bleary eyed from the 14th Century Manor house the following morning having raised over £600 and with more than a few spooky stories for the grandchildren.
On the other side of the Atlantic, Progress's Welfare Rights Manager, Franco Barnowski, grabbed trainers and his passport to pound Manhattan's streets for charity in the New York Marathon. Franco joined 38,000 people in the race and to date has raised over £1200 towards his target of £1700 for Shelter's campaign for homeless and badly housed children.
Says Paul: 'Raising much needed funds for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust is something very close to my heart as my daughter is a sufferer. People often don't realise that it's the UK's most common life-threatening, inherited disease and affects more than 7500 children and young adults.
'I am over the moon that we managed to raise £600 for the charity and it was certainly worth a few close shaves with the other world.'
Franco returned to work from his New York expedition on Wednesday to a much deserved round of applause from colleagues who had whipped up sponsorship of £800 between them.
Says Franco: 'Over one million children live in poor housing with devastating consequences for their education, health and welfare. Running the marathon was a gruelling but fantastic experience and was worth all the hard work to raise money for such a worthwhile charity.'
Paul and Franco are still collecting for their respective Charities. If you would like to donate, please contact them on 01772 450852, or at www.justgiving.com/fib
