Residents Marking Grey Matters Day - July 200631 July 2006

New Progress Housing Association organised an afternoon event for residents at three sheltered housing schemes in South Ribble to mark Grey Matters Day.

Grey Matters is a national event organised by EroSH, the national consortium for sheltered and retirement housing, to encourage people over fifty to take up learning opportunities, hobbies and mind stretching activities to keep their brains fit and healthy.

To mark the event, residents from Jubilee Court, Lowerhouse and Old Mill Court enjoyed an afternoon party with cake and strawberries whilst enjoying an Origami workshop, a demonstration of signing to music by the Gospel Hands Group from Leyland St Mary's High School, and a talk from Ian McConachie about the Age Concern project: Trading Skills Between Ages.

The Age Concern project aims to bring generations together; and promote better understanding and respect through a wide range of activities.

Says Scheme Manager, Jacci Hutchinson: 'The event was a great way to get residents together from different schemes and they thoroughly enjoyed it.'
